Guest Lecture on Bio-medical Hazard and its management - NGSMIPS

Development of biohazards is inevitable in research when using small animals. Proper handling of biohazard and its management is the key to prevent or minimize health hazards. To understand these aspects, Major (Dr.) Shivakumar Hiremath discussed various guidelines involved in this area. He also emphasized the role and importance of institutional biosafety committee in planning and monitoring of biohazard development. Additionally, Dr. Prathiba Bhat, highlighted the procedures to be followed during handling of biohazard materials. Only colour coded plastic bags should be used for segregation of the biohazard materials. Proper segregation of biohazard material plays a vital role in minimizing the risk during its management. On contract basis, licensed agencies will pick these stored biohazard materials and process as per the guidelines. Collective effort of all individuals who handles biohazard materials is essential and it will make a difference in its management.
