Health Camp / Outreach Program, "Diabetic Screening Camp" - KSHEMA

The Department of Community Medicine organized a Health Camp / Outreach Program, "Diabetic Screening Camp" on 15-11-2015 at Health Center Hejamadi.

In accordance with the World Diabetic day, a Diabetic screening and health checkup camp was conducted at Hejamadikodi Health Centre by the Department of Community, K S Hegde Medical Academy on 15/11/2015.

The camp was inaugurated by the honorable Dean, Dr Satish Kumar Bhandary. Dr Udayakiran, Professor and Head of Department of Community Medicine coordinated the camp. It comprised of five specialties- General Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Blood sugar screening was conducted for all the patients above 40 years through GRBS estimation. The team of doctors consisted of Dr Rahul Hegde (Asst. Professor, Department of Community Medicine) Dr Sharon Baisil (Postgraduate, Community Medicine) Dr Shreeja (Postgraduate, Obstetrics and Gynecology) Dr Arathy Vijay (Postgraduate, Pediatrics) Dr Suchithara (Post Graduate, Ophthalmology) Dr Bhairav (Postgraduate, Orthopedics) and the interns posted in the respective departments.

A total of 172 patients attended the camp. GRBS screening was done for 76 patients, among which 32 had high blood sugar. Out of this 32, 8 were newly detected diabetics. 109 patients attended the Medicine OP and majority had diabetes or hypertension. 31 patients attended the Ophthalmology OP and 7 patients were referred to K S Hegde Hospital for Cataract Surgery. 20, 6 and 7 patients attended the Orthopedics, OBG and Pediatrics OPs respectively.
