“Pharmacist: Your partner in health”, the theme for this year‘s World Pharmacists day emphasizes a historic shift of the role of pharmacists as ‘pill-vendors’ to that of an integral member of the health care delivery system. To drive home this message to the public, a rally was organized by NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Deralakatte, Managlore on 25 September, 2015. The rally was flagged off by Smt. Geetha Kumari Das, Assistant Drugs Controller, Madikeri. Speaking on the occasion, she said that World Pharmacists day is an opportunity for pharmacists to rededicate their service to mankind to promote great health for all. Dr. S. Ramanand shetty, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Nitte University, in his presidential remark appreciated the initiatives of the Pharmacy Council of India in catalyzing the transformation of pharmacist’s role from industry centric to that of patient centric. Dr. C. S. Shastry, Principal of the college highlighted that the growing need of assistance by pharmacists’ sought by the health care delivery system indicates that the pharmacists role is complementary to the medical profession and not in competition. Mr. Pramod Hegde, Managing Director, Medorganics India Pvt. Ltd, and Mr. Sadanand V. Shetty, Proprietor, Ganesh Medicals, Mangalore were the guests of honour. Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu, Vice Principal gave the welcome address and Dr. Jennifer Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
