Nitte Visit by Dr. NSAM FGC & PU College - Bengaluru

A visit to our Parent Organization the Nitte Education Trust was on the cards for the last 3 years but somehow despite invitations by our beloved President, Shri N Vinaya Hegde we were unable to make time for it. Finally this year we made a decision to visit Nitte. Accordingly on the 29th September 2015, 25 staff members left for Nitte by the Night Bus – Vishal Motors. The staff members were from both the FGC and PU colleges with 14 from FGC and 11 from PUC.

We reached our Nitte Guest House at 6.00 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by the Guest House Manager - Mr. Jagannath Shetty. Once all the rooms were allotted we completed our ablutions and assembled for a sumptuous breakfast. A Nitte Bus was waiting for us at the main road while 2 FGC staff of Dr. NSAM, Nitte also joined us. We were taken to the Char Basadi Temple which is a beautiful Jain temple with identical idols on all 4 sides.

From there, we visited the Karkal Gomateshwara and then the 1000 Khamba Jain Basadi temple. We then proceeded to the beautiful Ganapathi temple nearby After paying our respects at this temple, we went to the Kemmanu Durga Parmeshwari Temple at Nitte. This is the ancestral temple of the Nitte Family and has the legendary idol of Durga Prameshwari. The serene tank fed by a small rivulet in front of the temple offers a panoramic view along with the artistic temple premises.

From here we rushed to Nitte FGC for a delicious lunch with all their staff and the Nitte PUC staff. Post lunch we adjourned for our respective interaction sessions i.e. FGC, Bangalore with FGC, Nitte and PUC, Bangalore with PUC, Nitte.

Our interaction with FGC Nitte was really productive as the staff of Nitte FGC shared their experiences of working for NAAC. The criteria parameters were shared by each of the co-ordinators for the 7 specified NAAC criteria. This gave us a lot of insight. We were really impressed by the knowledge and depth of work done. Of course, this is their third cycle of accreditation, whereas we are still working towards the 1st accreditation. We i.e. the Bangalore team shared some sweets and savoury mixture with our colleagues at Nitte.

After a cup of tea and snacks, we retired to the guest house to freshen up for the evening dinner hosted by our beloved President – Shri N. Vinaya Hegde. To our dismay, it began to rain and just as we were wondering how we would reach the meeting point, Prof. Veena, the Principal of FGC, NItte, called and said that she had arranged cars to pick us up. All the staff of FGC & PUC of both Nitte & Bangalore left for the guest house at Mukka, Surathkal by about 5.45 p.m. We were at the President’s Guest House by 6.30 p.m. Some of our staff was attracted to the beach opposite the guest house. They had hardly spent 15 minutes on the beach when the showers commenced, so we all had to move inside. We were joined by the PUC staff of Mangalore, making it a total of 5 colleges all meeting for the first time.

The Principal of the Engineering College also joined us along with Prof Rajshekar, The Registrar of Nitte University and the Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramanand Shetty. The President Shri N. Vinaya Hegde came with his family comprising his wife, daughter in law and grand children. His son Vishal could not come due to some prior engagement.

The President welcomed us all and expressed his happiness on our visit to Nitte. Both the PU Principal, Mrs. Rajalakshmi and the FGC College Principal Dr. Meera Krishnappa presented the President and his wife with bouquets and some gifts as a token of appreciation. The dinner was a grand affair and we all left the Guest House replete with not only food but rich memories.

The next day we left for Deralakatte to see the Hospital and the Offices there. As we were led through the hospital we marvelled at the facilities available and the cleanliness. We then went up to the main office area and were personally welcomed again by Shri N Vinaya Hegde and Prof. Rajshekar. We also met all our other office personnel with whom we only communicate over phone. Prof. Rajshekar handed over Nitte pins along with some literature and CDs on the Nitte Education Trust. After this the group went to the Kadri temple, paid their respects and had lunch there before leaving for the Guest house again. Here everyone changed and left for Panambur Beach to have a rollicking time playing in the water. Some of the staff even ventured to ride a water bike while some were content to watch the fun. By 5.00 p.m, we all assembled at our pick up point. We returned to the guest house to shower and change. One of our staff members was celebrating her birthday so the rest had ordered a cake which she cut and distributed. It was time to rush to the Railway station as our train was scheduled at 8.45 p.m. But we did make time to have the famous ‘Gadbad’ ice cream from Pabbas before we reached the station.

Thus we concluded our memorable trip to Nitte with wonderful experiences and beautiful memories to be cherished forever. We extend a big thank you to Prof. Veena, Prof. Rajshekar and of course our benevolent President Shri N Vinaya Hegde for the warm hospitality, cordiality and the logistic support provided to make our trip a very successful one.
