Banking specialization wing of the Institute has organized a Research Presentation Competition on the topic “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Banks’ Publicity Expenditure on Banks Profitability and Image Building”, for the II year MBA Banking specialization students on 11th September 2015 in the Institute auditorium. The objective of this presentation was to inculcate a sense of creativity among the students and take them closer to the real-time banking world. The students were asked to evaluate the effectiveness of Banks’ publicity expenditure and its impact on Bank’s profitability and image building for public sector banks, old generation private sector banks and new generation private sector banks. Students after collecting, analyzing various types of financial, non-financial data and bank’s existing advertisement and marketing strategies identified the flaws in the present banking strategy and came up with novel ideas to improvise the existing strategy and system. The presentation was followed by a scholarly lecture by the eminent banker and noted economist Dr. N.K Thingalaya, the Chairman of the Academic Council of the Institute on the theme “Evolution of Publicity Campaigns in Banks”.During his talk, he stated that banks were not using publicity to reach out the masses before privatization. Highlighting the various advertising campaigns of public sector banks from 1960s to 1990s, he stated its impact on deposit mobilization. The event was adjudged by Dr. N.S. Shetty, Professor Emeritus and Professor Isaac Verghese of the Institute. The Group that analyzed the new generation private sector banks emerged as the winners in the competition. Dr. N.K Thingalaya handed over the prizes to the winning team. Dr. K Sankaran, Director of the Institute, Professor Jnaneshwar Pai Maroor, Bancore Faculty Coordinator, Dr. Sudhir Raj K, and Professor Sujir Prabhakar were present on the occasion. Ms. Divya compeered the program.
