One day work shop on Taxidermy - NGSMIPS

The Vice-Principal, Dr. R. Narayana Charyulu welcomed Mr. Mohan Morey and Dr. Jennifer Fernandes introduced the resource person to participants. Mr. Mohan Morey is a renowned taxidermist and senior international athlete and who was worked at Karnataka Science college, Dharwar. Mr. Morey explained briefly about the topic Taxidermy and various techniques adapted. Taxidermy is the art of preserving skin, together with the fur, feathers, or scales of animals. A skin may be so prepared for use as a specimen for study, as an exhibit in museums and private collections, as an ornament, or article of apparel. He showed the stuffing technology for various animals namely, crab, Katla fish & rat. Later participants practiced the stuffing for crab. He made the participants to learn the technique step by step. He had given the information about tools and materials to be used, various formulas to prepare the stuffing, reference books etc. Also he explained the isolation and mounting and preserving various organs At the end he said that successful results in taxidermy can only be achieved by many hours of hard work.15 participants including faculty, PG students & lab assistants utilized the opportunity to learn taxidermy techniques.
