CNE ON ‘SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META ANALYSIS’ - NUINS

CNE ON ‘SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META ANALYSIS’ - NUINS Department of Community Health Nursing in collaboration with II year M. Sc (N) students organized a CNE on the topic ‘Meta analysis and Systematic Review’ on 18-12-14 at Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences. The resource person for this program was Dr. Sanal T.S, Biostatistician Nitte University who has hands on experience in Meta analysis and Systematic review.

The sessions started at 2.00 pm with welcome speech by Ms. Savitha II year M. Sc (N) followed by the class on systematic review and hands on training on analysis part of Meta analysis. Systematic reviews differ from traditional narrative reviews in several ways. Narrative reviews tend to be mainly descriptive, do not involve a systematic search of the literature, and thereby often focus on a subset of studies in an area chosen based on availability or author selection. Systematic reviews, as the name implies, typically involve a detailed and comprehensive plan and search strategy derived a priori, with the goal of reducing bias by identifying, appraising, and synthesizing all relevant studies on a particular topic. Often, systematic reviews include a meta-analysis component which involves using statistical techniques to synthesize the data from several studies into a single quantitative estimate or summary effect size (Petticrew & Roberts, 2006). The program was organized under the guidance of Mr. Sujith Kuriakose, Lecturer, and Department of Community Health Nursing. Around 35 members including PG students and faculty benefited from the program.
