Freshers’ day celebration - NGSMIPS

Freshers’ day celebration and student council inauguration of Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences was held on Sep 13, 2014. The new students who come from different regions and background might have anxiety and fear of moving out of their comfort zone and step into a whole new world. To make this transition fluent, it has been customary of the seniors at NGSMIPS to welcome and induct the ‘Freshers’ into the NGSMIPS family and make them feel at home. The seniors are excited and wait for this day every year to welcome new faces and make new friends. The ambience in the campus is abuzz with fresh excitement and fresh energy.



 The day began with a prayer invoking blessings from the almighty. Vice Principal Dr. Narayana Charyulu delivered the welcome address and introduced the Chief guest Mr.Srivatsa Rao, Sr. Manager, Regulatory Sciences, Biocon Ltd, Bangalore. Mr.Srivatsa Rao inaugurated the student council of the year 2014-15. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao advised the students that while it was contemporary to use the internet it was certainly desirous of them to use it judiciously and not to get lost in the cyber maze; rather make books their friends as they are the real treasures of knowledge. Dr. C.S.Shastry, Principal, in his presidential speech said that the Indian pharmaceutical sector has seen an unprecedented growth in the last decade and by 2015 India will be in the list of top 10 global pharmaceutical markets and is likely to touch US $ 20 billion. He also said more than 2 lakh pharma graduates would be required by Indian Pharmaceutical Industry and that there was a vast and growing scope for employment and entrepreneurship opportunity in areas such as CROs, CRM, Clinical Trials, Pre-Clinical Trials, Research and Development etc.


 The outgoing student council president Mr. Anil Kumar shared his experience and along with the council members handed over charge to the newly elected president Mr. Jestin G. Joseph and his new team. This was followed by variety entertainment program jointly put up the seniors and the new students. Mr. Shanfar and Ms. Anila were adjudged Mr. Fresher and Ms. Fresher 2014 respectively. Mr. Antony, Gen Secy. students council proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Shantanu saha, Asst. Prof Dept. of Pharmacognosy and coordinator Cultural Activities Committee managed the proceedings.
