On occasion of Oral Health Month celebration the department of Public Health Dentistry, A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of dental sciences, Deralakatte (A constituent of Nitte University) supported byits network of 15 Rural Health centres enthusiastically celebrated a plethora of activities designed to spread awareness about oral health in the community. The activities included Oral examination & education given to about 2200 people, dental care rendered to about 500 patients, Health talks to spread awareness benefitting about 1000 people. I BDS students presented skits and street plays on themes like general and oral hygiene, ill effects of tobacco in 5 different locations. The events were held at Mangalore and around the rural centers covering an extensive geographic area in the radius of about 100kms includingKundapuraTaluk (Dabbekatte, Marnakatte, Nada &Koteshwar), places around Nitte and Karkala (Bolakodi, Kervase, Mundkur&Kinnigoli) Sringeri&Kigga (106 kms), Subramanya (104 kms) &Payyanoor, Kerala state.The month long events culminated with activities like Flash mob, health exhibition, Oral Examination, games stalls and drawing competitions were initiated, organized and conducted by interns at City Centre Mall, Mangalore on 20th March 2014. The day is celebrated globally by Federation dentireinternationale (FDI) as World Oral Health day.
